Autumn has arrived, bringing with it the cooler weather and the opportunity to get out your favourite winter coats.
I am not a fan of buying into current fashion trends, but they do influence what is available in stores. Adding one or two new items, particularly in a seasonal 'on trend' colour can refresh and update your existing wardrobe.
I am always keen to point out to clients who fear that a colour will date and be out of fashion the next year, it wont'.
This season is a great example. When I was doing a huge sweep of all the stores from the high street to the higher end to prepare for the season I found there are 3 very dominant colours among all the neutrals; Bright red, Mustard and Wine.
None of these colours are ever 'out', as they are classic 'autumn' colours. It is just that this year they are available in every possible item and fabric.
I'm a big fan of an understated style, with mostly neutral colours and muted tones. Having a wardrobe of neutral basics makes getting dressed and putting outfits together so much simpler! Having said that, I then encourage my clients to add a pop of colour in a jumper, top or shoe for example.
A great way to do this, especially if you already have a winter coat in navy, black or camel, is with a red coat. It is the perfect way to incorporate this seasons colour trend, and brighten up a dull winters day come January. And I promise yo it won’t be ‘out’ next year.
If you feel your personal style is not bold enough to pull off a red coat, I encourage you try one anyway - I think you may be pleasantly surprised. And if it's too much for you, maybe buy a scarf instead.
